Allen & Orr has a long proud history, dating back to the 1790s, when the owner John Rooth moved the newly created timber merchants, to our present premises Saltergate.
For over 100 years, we have been the leading local timber merchant, serving the needs of local tradesmen as well as retail. Our staff are friendly and knowledgeable and will always strive to provide high-quality service and a range of stock at all times.
We have always had a good reputation for our hands-on service, ready to help you whether you are a tradesman or if you have questions for any DIY projects.

This company can be traced to its history from a malting business on Knifesmithgate belonging to John Rooth, which was in existence in 1780.
to become a timber merchant. In the 1830s they moved to Allen & Orr's present premises on Saltergate.
The Rooth family sold the business to the present company soon after 1900.
